THE COLLEGE OF SAINT ROSE

AU PAIR WEEKEND CLASSES

at the

SILVER BAY YMCA OF THE ADIRONDACKS CAMPUS

We know that your visit to America will be an exciting adventure.  To ensure that you have the best experience possible, we are offering non-credit classes especially for you.  Each weekend is the equivalent of three credit hours of class work and require you to do projects and papers either prior to or after the weekend.  These classes, first offered in 1996, provide information that will help you understand American Culture, assist you with being an au pair and offer personal development opportunities. Check with your particular agency to be sure they accept these college courses sponsored by The College of Saint Rose.  The College uses the Silver Bay Campus, because there is ample sleeping, eating and classroom space on the Silver Bay Campus. In the 2006 academic year, Silver Bay’s campus was used by over eight colleges in the northeast for courses and other programs. The College of Saint Rose has used the Silver Bay Campus for over 29 years for Educational Programs. Some summer offerings will be on the Albany Campus.

Silver Bay’s official address is 87 Silver Bay Rd., Silver Bay NY 12874. This is about 80 miles north of Albany NY

THE PROGRAM
The program is offered about seven weekends a year by the Silver Bay YMCA of the Adirondacks Conference Center on Lake George, Silver Bay, NY.  The courses are sponsored by The College of Saint Rose, which is in Albany NY, 80 miles south of Silver Bay. Each weekend plus required papers and projects are worth the equivalent of three credit hours of class work. During your visit to America, you are required to take the equivalent of six credit hours of class work per year.

FACULTY - Professional and Student
Various qualified and enthusiastic professionals present the class sessions. There is usually a minimum of ten faculty each weekend and usually sixteen or more. We generally also include, as co-instructors, assistants and general participants, college students and recent graduates from both the Silver Bay campus and The College of Sa
int Rose campus.  Small sessions are usually in groups of about 20.  All instructors are volunteers.

CONTACT WITH AMERICAN STUDENTS
The Silver Bay campus uses both American and International College students and interns to staff their facilities.  The College generally has several current and recent American college students join the weekends.  One goal is to encourage communications between the American and International students.  We also encourage the attending au pairs and students to communicate with each other after the course and visit each other in the various historic cities in our country.

FORMAL AND INFORMAL DISCUSSIONS
Au pairs have reported that they especially like the opportunity of having current American college students and recent graduates participating in informal discussions, the social events and formal classroom discussions. Most report staying in communication with other au pairs they have met at the course.
