Council Member Login

Silver Bay Council started in the late 1960s when a group of committed Silver Bay members offered to help year-round staff in closing up the campus for the winter and opening it in the spring. This activity was labeled “Tidy Time” and by 1969, larger work parties were organized in October and May. The group was formalized with a mission statement and a committee was formed to write by-laws. Although Council’s function has grown and changed over the years, its mission has remained constant.

Mission Statement

“Recognizing the basic authority of the Board of Trustees, and the accountability of the Administration to that board, the Council shall strive to cooperatively complement the efforts of these two bodies in fulfilling the purpose of the Association.”

Functions and Activities

Work Weekends. Also called “Tidy Time,” members meet in May and October to help with various work projects such as gardening, trail maintenance, boathouse and beach chores, office tasks and other special projects.

Fundraising

he main fundraising activity is the August sale of donated valuables on the porch of the Inn. Council contributes all of the funds raised, except for operating expenses, to projects, purchases and programs which help Silver Bay. In the past year money has been donated to fix the auditorium windows, to purchase a light utility vehicle for the maintenance department and to replant the Triangle perennial garden.

Share Ideas with Board of Trustees and the Administration

Council acts as a liaison between the members of Silver Bay and both the Board of Trustees and Administration. It provides a forum for offering new ideas and suggestions to support the association in such areas as: setting priorities, raising funds, and increasing membership and membership participation. The president of the Council attends board meetings and the president of the board attends Council meetings to bring members up to date on Board decisions and activities. Additionally, a Silver Bay staff member acts as a liaison between Council and Administration to facilitate communications between these groups.
